A keen group of Padel tennis players are working together to bring this rapidly growing sport to East Lothian. This will become a not-for-profit community led Padel club serving East Lothian, initially with two covered floodlit Padel courts.

What is Padel?

Padel is one of the fastest growing sports in the World because it's fun, easy to learn and very sociable. Typically, games of Padel are played as 'doubles' on an enclosed court with glass and metal walls, similar in layout to a tennis court but about half the size. Just like squash, balls can be played off the walls. If you've not played it click the yellow button below.

Latest News

Planning Permission

Although East Lothian Council remain very supportive of the East Lothian Padel Club, unfortunately they are now unable to accommodate Padel courts at the originally proposed location at The Memorial Park, Gullane.

Following this set back, East Lothian Padel Club have undertaken an exhaustive search for a new site, and have now signed a Heads of Terms Agreement on land at Fenton Barns near the Café. The site is already known to East Lothian Council and has previously had a pre-planning application made on it, hence we are now preparing a full planning application with the help of external consultants.

Padel Club Design

We continue to work closely with Padel Court suppliers to finalise the design of the Padel Courts and enclosure, and tie down the build costs. This will be a fully enclosed facility, hence completely protected from the elements.

We have now appointed a company to oversee the technical design and the Planning Permission application for the new structure. They will then undertake the detailed management of the construction phase of the facility. The image below provides a rough idea of how the layout might look.

Governance

After consultation with various tax experts and accountancy firms the club has been set up as a Private Company Limited by Guarantee. We are currently going through the process of applying for Charitable Status which will take several months to complete.

Funding

The final cost of setting up the Club, is likely to be around the £450k mark. We have raised over £100k of this so far and are currently looking for people who are either prepared to donate money towards the club, or lend the club money in order to fill the gap. In addition we are also contacting grant providers.

If you are interested, or know of anyone who is interested in providing funding on either a grant or loan basis then please click here or get in touch.

Similarly, if you have experience in making funding applications to grant providers and would like to help, please get in touch.

Membership

We currently have 400 people who have asked to be kept informed about the progress of the Club, and this bodes well for creating a strong membership base. Once we get further down the road we will provide more details on likely pricing, and also membership arrangements

Next Steps

As you can see, despite the setback regarding Memorial Park, we have continued to press ahead with the development of the club, and having now agreed Heads of Terms on a new site, we are confident that we can now move forward more rapidly.
